2008-Feb-27 Noon Position

Indian Ocean
6'17.1N/78'19.9E

  • 110 nm last 24hrs
  • 325 nm to Maldive Islands
  • 114 nm from Sri Lanka
  • Winds calm
  • Seas W 2ft
As we took our noon position the winds have picked up to N 20+ knots with 4-5 foot seas. So the piper is rocking all over the place and taking spray over the starboard side. So this entry will be short.

We are getting closer to the Sailmail black hole out here in the Indian Ocean. It will not improve until we get closer to the Red Sea. So if we do not respond you your emails please understand.

Many ships the last 24 hours, some as close as 1/2 mile away during the night. Also dodged a few fishing boats that were drifting pass 1/4 mile away in the middle of the night. We saw S/V Shiraz this morning off on the horizon. They should be blazing ahead of us with all this wind. We are in radio contact with them every evening on the SSB radio.

More in 24,
Tom and Amy
